Panama: Next Venue for BELLA II Strategic Dialogues

Panama: Next Venue for BELLA II Strategic Dialogues

As part of a week of activities focused on strengthening science, technology, innovation, and cooperation organized by RedCLARA in Panama City, the third Open Strategic Dialogue of the BELLA II project will be held on November 15.

As in the previous dialogues held in Brussels (July) and El Salvador (October), this space will convene regional representatives of government institutions, international cooperation, universities, research centers, national and multilateral private banks, companies, delegations of the European Union (EU), DG-INTPA and heads of cooperation of European countries.

The workshop “The Role of Universities and NRENs in Building a viable, sustainable and Impactful Digital Future in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC)” will be the third strategic dialogue as part of the implementation process of the BELLA II project, which is one of the pillars of the EU-LAC Digital Alliance and aims to strengthen and expand the digital ecosystem to contribute to the development of the region.

The regional digital ecosystem promoted by RedCLARA, within the framework of BELLA II and the Digital Alliance, will promote meaningful and purposeful connectivity, involving a wide range of stakeholders to foster innovation, capacity building, productive capacity development, and business competitiveness, underpinning the use of technology as a tool for economic growth and social transformation.

The objectives of this new dialogue will be to promote a process of reflection on the challenges faced by universities and NRENs in the digital economy, to generate ideas and define a framework for decision-making on projects to be undertaken by the digital ecosystem, and to discuss the data space needed for the operation of the digital ecosystem and relational processes.

At the end of the workshop, it is expected to have a roadmap that will allow the various stakeholders to identify their roles and how they can contribute to the development of the data-based, people-centered, and driving innovation, knowledge management, and bi-regional socio-economic development digital ecosystem.

The workshop will be one of the three main activities promoted by RedCLARA between November 13 and 17, in Panama City, Panama.

On November 13 and 14, the TICAL 2023 Conference “Bridges to Transformation”, organized with the support of the National Secretariat of Science, Technology, and Innovation of Panama (Senacyt), will bring together more than 200 experts, international panelists and representatives of NRENs from Latin America, the Caribbean, Europe, and the United States.

This conference is an ideal prelude to the dialogue, as it will be a space where universities and research and education networks can explore questions such as: what should be the strategic vision that drives their role in the digital era in the region; what infrastructures and processes should they create to build bridges to the digital economy; and how can they contribute to the realization of the roadmap enabling digital transformations in science, technology and innovation?

The Dialogue will be followed on 16 and 17 November by the event "Digital Transformation as an Enabler for the Improvement of food security and clean energy transition", organized by RedCLARA in partnership with the Energy, Environment, and Technology Research Center of Spain (Ciemat), with the funding and support of the EU-LAC Foundation.
