January 26, 2022, 1 p.m. GMT: Join the inauguration of the BELLA connectivity between Brazil, Argentina and Chile

The official inauguration of the connectivity of the terrestrial section between Brazil, Argentina and Chile of the BELLA Programme (Building the Europe Link of Latin America) is a milestone for the development of science, education, technology and innovation of our continent and its relationship with Europe.

It will be held through videoconference with the participation of authorities from the governments of Brazil and Chile, the European Union (EU, that co-financed the BELLA Programme) and the academic networks involved. The event will be broadcast live at RedCLARA’s and the national networks Live Broadcast webpages.

The section connects Porto Alegre (BR), Buenos Aires (AR) and Santiago (CL), and has 6,070 km of terrestrial telecommunication infrastructure, with capacities of up to 600 Gbps that will benefit more than 1,550 university and research centers in Chile and Brazil, leaving the path ready for the future connection of Argentine institutions. This new connectivity moreover has numerous benefits with the Copernicus Programme in Chile, and the astronomical research in Brazil.
